In this video, I show how I combined collagraph with gelli prints. It's the second video in my series, but this one is a bit different. I decided to use my old chopped up collagraphy slides to create new compositions of my gelli prints.
I went a little bit crazy and had a huge printing session in my studio, resulting in three busy artworks. Looking back, I probably should have stopped at some point, but I got carried away with the process.
I show the progress of my artwork halfway through and admit that I might have overcooked it. Nevertheless, it was a fun experiment, and I hope the viewers enjoy watching it too. I rummage through different plates to find ones that give interesting jelly prints, looking for good patterns and drawing out various shapes on newsprint paper to create stencils.
I experimented with different colors, starting with the lightest and moving to yellow, amber, burnt sienna, orange, black, and more. I created funky circles and played around with different colors to create interesting compositions.
In the end, I showed three prints, admitting that they're not quite finished yet but a good start to something interesting. I encouraged others to have fun and play with the process, as there's lots of fun to be had in experimentation
